Ever fast technology improvements give rise to a car battery that does over 500 mile on one charge
A new type of battery has been invented for the E.V. Car. This battery was invented by electrical giants IBM.
The new battery is called the lithium-air battery and it now makes it possible to electric vehicles for up to 500 miles, this is getting better and is gradually catching up on a standard petrol car for a single tank full(although you would have to recharge the battery before you returned.
Lithium-air battery technology is not a new thing, but it has the potential to achieve unusually high energy densities that can rival that of all rechargeable batteries in use today. The reason why batteries with higher energy densities enable EVs to drive further is simply because they are lighter.
The new lithium-air batteries use a type of carbon in there positive electrode, unlike lithium-ion batteries different materials in their construction. This carbon reacts with the air to generate electricity.IBM say that a protype battery may be out in 2013 and sold in2020.
