Should Golf batteries be treated better ??
We are now coming up to Spring time when many golfers will be getting all their golf equipment out to check over their bits and pieces ready for the new golf season.
This ritual also includes the golfers trolley batteries,(or battery) as is usually the case. This when battery companies such as batteriesontheweb.co.uk start getting phone calls and visits from the golfers, who are always claiming that the golf battery that they have bought ,”had gone faulty”. We get this every year. Thousands of golfers across the country must go through this with their golf batteries every single year, they never fail, in fact they have started now, the beginning of March.
Golf batteries need love and tender care. The first thing is to get the correct golf battery in the first place. You should replace the battery with the same that you have on, for example if you have a 22 amp battery then it makes sense to replace it with a 22amp battery. The size of the battery will also be the same to enable the battery to fit the cover and trolley. Some golfers are hell bent on buying a “bigger” golf battery, This is all right if the battery fits the trolley, a bigger battery will give you a bigger ampage the next one up from a 22amp is a 26 amp battery, this will give you a bigger round of golf, for your money, but it must “FIT”
Also it is important to check your old battery to see if it is “GEL” or “AGM”,both these batteries are suitable for golf but they require different charging systems, if you fit the wrong batteries you are likely to get premature failure, so this is important.
Golf batteries over wintering
This is the part that golfers fail on. In Winter when the battery is not been used, you should follow the procedure of first fully charging your battery then check it at regular intervals, if the battery needs charging then charge as required, this will make sure that your golf battery will work at the beggining of the new season. Also I think it is always a good idea two keep a spare battery as a back up battery. This will save the annual panic when the golf battery fails. Finally in my opinion you should treat your golf battery as a throw away item and should be changed every two years, golfers seem to save their old batteries simply WHY ??
